I first dealt with Select in 2011 when they introduced me to my ex-wife. Sadly my marriage ended a few years ago, so when I felt ready contacting them again seemed the obvious choice. Unfortunately after singing their praises to my friends for 10 years, my experience this time hasn't been as positive.

I've been on the Classic membership for 18 months now, during which time only 4 of my matches has wanted to meet me, including only 1 in the first 6 months. My last match gave me some insight as to why this is; she joined in 2017 but I was the first person she agreed to meet, which suggests that at this level Select just have a list of random people that signed up in the past, but which they never follow up on or review to ensure their members are still current. You don't get any feedback if you're turned down so it's hard to do anything to improve your chances. It's currently been 3 months since I last heard from them.

When I finally asked why I wasn't having any success I got a 1 line email back saying my profile looked OK, and did I want to adjust my search criteria. Given I'd already left these as open as possible I'm not sure what I could change, and they didn't offer any advice. In the end I reached out to Alex directly who did find me someone who did actually want to meet.

Select clearly isn't a scam; I've spoken to Alex at weekends and late at night, and had one match on a Sunday. They also wrote my profile for me for free which is a service they usually charge for, however that didn't do anything to improve my chances so I couldn't say it's a service worth paying for.

On top of poor communication they also don't take criticism well. Last time I left a bad review I got a letter from a "Mr Patterson" threatening legal action if I didn't take it down, which I think is quite revealing regarding their attitude to their clients. This is a standard letter they send to everyone who complains, which you can safely ignore as the right to free speech, including leaving negative reviews is protected under UK law. Interestingly if you email Select with a general query it takes them a day or two to respond, whereas if you leave a bad review you'll be hearing from Mr P within a couple of hours, so it's obvious which they're most bothered about.

Ultimately I can't give Select 1 star as it did work 12 years ago, but that was a different time when dating was fun rather than an ordeal, or maybe I just got lucky. At least they've shown me I don't have many options in today's dating world, so I don't need to spend any more time and effort on it.

So happy I joined Select. Everyone I've spoken to has been tremendously helpful and professional. I paid about £1000 and later added a personally curated bio and some coaching. Glad I did, the bio went in to a lot of detail and I think without it I would have struggled to make a great impression. As luck has it, I've been introduced to a true gentleman who treated me to lunch on our first date. We've since been on several dates and walked our dogs together last weekend. If you're thinking of joining a dating service, I would look no further than Select, they're experts.

This is a great company. I joined Select a few months ago. I was invited to a face to face meeting and because they have offices all over the Northwest I was able to choose where to meet them, which really helped because I travel a lot with work. Everyone I have spoken with at Select has been professional and friendly. When I got my first match I wasn't sure where to meet up so I gave then a call and they suggested a number of places to meet and sent me details too, which was very helpful. I think their matching is absolutely spot on. You can pause your membership which I have done because I want to keep seeing one of the ladies I have met. Things seem to be going really well. I joined Select Personal Introductions last year. I chose this agency because they were recommended to me by a friend and they are based in Manchester. I was able to meet them at their offices, which was very reassuring. I thought their memberships were reasonably priced and I also felt safe because they ask everyone for identification. I can honestly say that the conversations I’ve had with them have always been friendly, positive and enthusiastic. They introduced me to some lovely professional gentlemen from around the Northwest which was a refreshing change compared to my experiences online. I have now met the perfect gent. We’ve had so much fun over the last few months and are planning on moving in together, which is a big thing for me. I wish I had seen honest reviews before I signed up and I don't want others to lose their money as I did. I had a conversation with Alex at the beginning and things felt very positive and I came away very happy. As soon as I handed over my money, things changed. Radio silence bar some generic emails about what to say on your date, etc. I didn't receive a match for months and when I emailed, they sent one straight over wasn't appropriate. When I turned this down, I never heard again. After months, I emailed stating I would like a refund as they had taken many hundred of pounds of my money and not fulfilled their obligations. I was told this wasn't possible and commented that I did not accept the single match they sent. I haven't received a single email from them since and I have lost over £500. I hope others don't make the mistake and lose the money that I did. It could be argued this company clearly prey on what is a vulnerability for some.

Note: if you look at most of their 5 star reviews, most have two posts, with a generic 5 star review about a another company just before.
