I engaged with BL IT Solutions Ltd based on the strength of their google reviews, however I cannot recommend this business based on my experience.

I asked for a faulty Buffalo external hard drive be looked at with the possibility of trying to recover the data. I dropped the drive off in a labelled bag at the Maidstone office and over a period of three weeks made several phone calls to ascertain whether it had been looked at as it had important work files I needed access to.

I was given a myriad of reasons why it had not been looked at–staffing issues, holidays and sickness–but was informed that it was being looked at or was due to be looked at imminently. After waiting for over four weeks for work to start, I drove over to the office to collect my hard drive to take it elsewhere to be looked at.

After arriving and watching a fruitless search of the office, I was informed the hard drive was no longer on the premises and may have been removed to be worked on from another address. I was told I would be contacted about its whereabouts and when it would be returned to me. I was naturally very concerned that my data had been lost and what the implications of this meant to the security of my data if it was recoverable.

After emailing the following week to ask for an update and not receiving any communication, I felt my only option was to write a breach of contract letter in order to gain a response. My letter was acknowledged by Ben, via email, who informed me that my drive was faulty, the data was unrecoverable and I could have the drive back minus the outer case as it had been broken open and discarded.

I was offered the opportunity to return to the office to retrieve my drive or have it sent via special delivery. I chose to drive over to collect it and on arriving I was handed a Toshiba drive, minus the outer case. I asked for the drive to be plugged into a PC so I could check the internal serial code matched the one I had on record.

Whilst waiting in the office, I noticed a Buffalo hard drive that looked identical to mine, sat unlabelled on an empty desk. On checking the exterior serial number, I was shocked to find that this was in fact my hard drive that had been dropped off eight weeks prior. No work had been carried out on my drive and the outer case was intact and showed no sign it had been opened.

The most distressing part of the whole saga was that I was handed a completely different drive with the intent to fob me off with a drive that was clearly not mine. My experience with BL IT Solutions Ltd has not only cost me financially by taking time away from my business, it has also cost me undue stress and worry and has taken a toll on my mental health.

I hope that this review serves as an important reminder that timely and effective communication with customers is imperative at all times, no matter what adversities you may face running a business.

Charged £72 for thermal paste without even letting me know prior, which is insane - wouldn’t have authorised this work had they called beforehand to let me know this cost, which was a request made but was subsequently ignored.

For reference, another local computer shop do a full service for that price, and they were also taken aback at the unprofessional nature of replacing something without authority and then charging stupid amounts for it without any option to decline.

Customer service not good at all, no staff were at the office even 10 minutes past opening time, and a neighbour had to let me in to drop off my machine, even though I was told someone would be there to collect it at 9am sharp. The grumpy old fella on the phone at BL IT had my pc for almost 4 hours before he let me know one of his staff had actually received it, and acted like I was being a nuisance any time I asked him anything, bad bad attitude.

On top of this BL IT didn’t actually fix the problem at all, so the overpriced thermal paste repair was a complete waste of money, and the machine had to be taken in for repairs at another place just a day later.

BL IT also lost my power lead, was replaced with another working one but just do better, be more professional and don’t leave your office in squalor if you don’t want to misplace things.

Bad experience, useless overpriced ‘repairs’ paired with very poor customer service, and a very unprofessional vibe. avoid!

Update: a far more professional shop has now informed me that the thermal paste they did apply was next to none, and the cooler was remounted incorrectly, with some of the parts placed upside down. AVOID! At all costs.

Picked up my Grandsons custom built computer, screen and keyboard with mouse. Polite friendly and very accommodating. Couldn't be more helpful. Xmas will be exciting for him thanks to Ben and his team. I had to reach out to Ben on Xmas day and he was amazing. Was a fault of ours but he steered us in the right direction. Who else would do that? Amazing man
