I started a claim with Maryam Amjaj August 2022. To date Maryam has organised a medical which was done over 18 months ago. Despite my constant emailing telephoning and calling in to the business nobody is ever available to speak with. Totally unprofessional incompetent untrustworthy I would never use Abbots in Walkden agai.

Having used this firm for conveyancing, I can only give you this simple piece of advice: DO NOT USE ABBOT & CO. I read some negative reviews before I started my house sale and thought, "how bad can they be?" Low-lights include:
- sitting on buyer solicitor's queries for nearly a month until my estate rang me to ask why I hadn't responded to them, when I had never seen them.
- catching them out lying to me twice saying they had done things that they hadn't.
- having to chase constantly for anything to be done (both myself and my estate agent)
- them rarely being in the office to take calls (they seem to be in court most of the time so assume they are focused on criminal law, not conveyancing)
- getting my bill wrong after the sale and over-billing me, although this was rectified on the same day
- and finally, the cherry on the cake, not paying my estate agent for 3 months after completion until the agent threatened to refer the matter to a debt collection agency.

How bad can they be? Well, terrible is my answer. I have a friend who is a solicitor and when I told them about my experience they said, "oh yes, they have a reputation for being slow". Slow was only half of my problems.

Attended a free advice session, that solicitor was great.

Further down the line i contacted them about booking in again, I asked how much and a lady told me it was free and booked me in. Again the session went well and she was really helpful.

When I contacted them again, I was told that it would be a 1 hour session and that the price would be £120, happy to go ahead I booked in.

I was waiting in reception when a solicitor and one of the office staff were talking making offensive comments about me paying etc - I should have just left then as it just got worse!

It was a different solicitor to the previous times, the "session" was rushed, it was like I was an inconvenience to her. She wasn't interested in any of the paper work I took, she made a comment saying well this is a free session so thats all i can discuss, I told her it wasn't!

Her attitude was disgusting and wasn't at all professional. I came out with no answers to any of my queries.

What a waste of £120 and my time.

Upon leaving I questioned the price and time and advised of my issues of how it was dealt with, her response was well no its half an hour and you have to pay.

Its stressful enough with out having to deal with her incompetence

I would share my experience with them so you could decide. I have a great experience with a Solicitor could Awais, he helped me a lot, more than you could imagine. He responded to each email on time, and meet me when I needed him. He dealt with my case professionally, and solved it quickly. I have dealt with Solicitors in the past from other places, but they weren't helpful like him. He is the Solicitor that will help you to get what you need.

I called them in July as a victim of domestic violence. The lady who answered the phone asked me for my contact details and told me they were going to call me back asap. They never did. I'm helpless. Is this just because I'm entitled to free legal aid? Awful.
