If you're a building owner, I guess they will defend you by hook or by crook.

If you're an adjoining owner to works for which they are appointed as owner's surveyor - be very, very careful. Don't trust verbal assurances - I had a surveyor inspect penetrating damp that their client's works had caused on my property, verbally discuss it with me - only to then issue an award claiming there was pre-existing rising damp! I wish I had recorded this conversation, but I was so foolish to trust a surveyor would behave with integrity.

My situation was unfortunately complicated by the fact that my own surveyor was mostly absent and unresponsive and very unhelpful, letting RBA take the lead on everything.
