I first met Richard as an in-patient in the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, in Headley Court, Surrey in 2015. I remember him keeping us amused with his anecdotes, treating all patients with equal respect, and never shying away from constructively challenging suboptimal performances. On a personal note, Richard kept me level headed and was always happy giving advice on upcoming big decisions about my future in the Armed Forces and life in general, without his help at the time I can quite honestly say I, may not have been where or who I am today.

In March 2020, Richard approached me to ask permission to nominate Veterans’ Growth for the Soldiering On Awards (SOA) 2021, in the Healthcare and Rehabilitation Category. He worked tirelessly with us to refine his submission, and in August Veterans’ Growth was declared as a finalist, in a record-breaking year of 275 individuals, partnerships, and organisations nominated for an award. This was the highest number in SOA’s 11-year history and a 20% increase from 2020.

2020 and 2021 were difficult years for many of us, but against a background of turbulence, uncertainty, acute resource shortfalls, and stress, Richard has demonstrated kindness, commitment, loyalty, humility, and most importantly maintained his sense of humour! He has been an outstanding ambassador for our charity who has gone above and beyond what was expected, and I’d highly recommend him for management consultancy and mentoring. As a direct result of his intervention, I believe he has raised our profile, reputation, and funding potential by more than 40%.

Richard first approached S&M Specialist Joiners, to design and construct a garden office interior in early 2019. He gave us every opportunity to propose new ideas, and appreciated our contributions. Richard has since employed us on a number of projects, and has become a loyal customer.
