We purchased and moved into a property to do it up for renting/resale. After some non-structural renovations I noticed a lot of cracking in the plaster and a few other things I was concerned about. I engaged Haworth McCall in Belfast to do a structural survey of the property and was very happy with the service and professionalism.

Des took time to talk to me over the phone initially, then came out and spent a few hours looking round and checking everything. He put my mind at ease about a number of things, and also caught a few things I'd missed, and gave advice on urgency and next steps for each one. Very happy, would definitely recommend.

I cannot thank the Haworth McCall staff enough for their services to date. From the initial contact, site visits, useful images provided throughout the design process and even now over a year later when construction is well under way and I needed to revise drawings that were completed very swiftly as not to hold up the build. They have been extremely patient with answering endless questions and calmly explained in layman's term so that even I can understand.My builders have passed positive comment and praised the quality and clarity of drawings. I would strongly recommend their services to friends and family.

I worked with Haworth McCall for my side extension, having been recommended to me by a builder who had worked with them numerous times previously.

I have no hesitation recommending them to anyone wishing to have work done- they managed the entire planning and building control process, responded promptly and constructively to my questions and those from interested builders but, most importantly, delivered drawings that were of a clear high quality so that my work went smoothly.

There were unrelated issues throughout the build- my preferred builder pulled out so HM recommended others builders in replacement. I also encountered party wall issues and HM advised throughout on how best to resolve issues.

I would like to thank the entire team (I dealt with many) for their professional advice and look forward to working with them in the future.

I never like to leave a negative review, but unfortunately I feel there is no other option in this case. I knew that I needed to justify the roof on my games room for building control and so I employed Haworth McCall to do this. The agreed contract was “to carry out a dimensional survey of the games room with the aim of producing structural calculations and any recommendations for remedial works for submission to building control."

At the end of a site visit I eventually received two options. I contacted builders (I’m still waiting for the promised list of builders from Haworth McCall) and two companies looked at the two separate options from Haworth McCall. The response from both was that if I followed their guidance the ceiling would fall down. I queried this as what is the point of the roof being justified when the ceiling was on the floor? Let’s just say they are not the friendliest people when you ask questions. In 80% of the emails from them, even before the diagrams were produced I was reminded of their fee. They never revisited the drawings and now I find myself in the situation that I will have to employ another structural engineer.

I received two very basic diagrams and had to fight with them for the calculations for building control – one of which was copy and pasted from the truss company website. In fact if I wanted further help I needed to pay them double their fee.

This company is not interested in anything apart from their fee, I wish someone had warned me of this before I ever let them set foot in my home. You trust people and then find out afterwards the truth – that is why I’m writing this review.

If you want a structural engineer that will help and guide you through your building requirements, not breech data protection laws with your details, and be interested in something other than their fee then DO NOT use Haworth McCall.

I have shown the paperwork and emails I received from them to several professionals and they are all surprised that they never revisited the drawings to address the fact their originals were wrong. They had no interest in anything but their money – which I paid even though I have been left with useless drawings and a bad experience.

We deal with conservation officers, building control officers and planners all whilst providing the best options for our clients. Haworth Mccall are an integral part of this process. They are of a size to be able to cope with these projects without being too big to answer the many questions that arise. If a client requires fully specified drawings or any project requires the services of a structural engineer we always recommend Haworth McCall.
