Just wanted to give the sellers viewpoint on our experience of Mr Lewis.
Almost his first words to us before he had even stepped over the threshold were ' people think they can hide or cover up faults in their house - don't bother, I will always find them.' This very much set the tone of his visit and attitude to us.He then spent over 6 hours (!) surveying the house, bearing in mind ours is a 4 bedroom 1980s house.
We had a full structural survey carried out last year which took the usual three and a half hours and found no serious faults ; but of course you always expect a surveyor will find something for their clients to haggle over.
We have bought and sold some twenty times over the last fifty years and can honestly say that this is the one surveyor we wouldn't let back into our property under any circumstances. Most bizarrely at one stage we even watched him go round the garden looking under the shrubs.
Our property sale on this occasion fell through, not due to the survey, though the prospective purchasers did say Mr Lewis was 'less than kind' about the house. Our estate agents also did a quick ring round other agents and said he appeared to have a reputation for being overly harsh. Surprise surprise.
While buyers might think this might be a good man to have on your side - well, that might just work in a buyers market.
Otherwise I can't imagine why you would want to completely alienate your seller by employing anyone with such poor interpersonal skills.

Our Flats Management Company has had the benefit of advice from David Lewis over a period of more than 10 years. His opinion and guidance have always proved to be professional, relevant, succint and cost-effective. Most recently we called upon him for an independent assessment of what appeared to be a building structural problem, with a potentially significant repair cost. He quickly identified that the source of the problem was likely to be more straightforward and recommended a course of action and appropriate contractors. In the event his professional intuition proved to be correct, which saved us from what would have been an incorrect and unnecessary solution. A friend of mine recommended David to me to carry out a HomeBuyer survey on a 2 bed flat I was purchasing.
