I naively believed myself to be pretty fit and healthy, undertaking lots of walks daily. I then suffered a bimalleolar ankle fracture that needed surgery. Consequently, I put on some weight and had quite a bit of muscle wastage due to forced bed rest and elevation post surgery.
In the past, I have tried to exercise at home, setting myself a routine, getting the required equipment etc and failing miserably. Basically, my motivation was rock bottom! I knew that the online fitness apps would be a waste of time for me.

I was given physiotherapy appointments at the hospital but found these severely lacking and ended up using a private physiotherapist. She worked on the supporting muscles, ligaments and tendons etc. However, we soon discovered just how inflexible I am all over! I had no core strength and everywhere was very rigid and stiff. I then got diagnosed with osteoporosis and realised that I needed to get some further help.

I contacted Matt but due to the distance I live from him, online sessions were the only option. I decided to give it a go although I really couldn’t see how these could possibly work. How wrong was I?

Matt is incredibly enthusiastic, supportive and encouraging. We discussed my health issues and goals, and Matt designed a training plan to suit. We talked about which weights I would need and kept the equipment list to a bare minimum. Having been off work for 5 months I couldn’t afford to buy lots of equipment.
I loved how easy the online sessions were. I can quickly get changed into my “gear” five minutes before the call - compare that to getting yourself ready and driving to the gym or an in-person session! Creating a structured, sustainable and manageable training regime is really important and ensuring the exercises I do are beneficial for my health conditions and won’t cause further problems.

Matt is with me every step of the way, encouraging, motivating and guiding me. My biggest concern about online training was that I would do some of the exercises wrong, but Matt has a great way of explaining how to do each one and keeps an eye while I go through the reps.

The benefits already:

Physically – I can already feel improvement in my core strength and flexibility. I am already beginning to see increased tone and muscle definition and my posture is also improving. Just when I think I can’t do any more, Matt encourages me to do 5 more reps and guess what? I can!

Mentally – Having a structure that I know will work, and I will stick to is really important and also having encouragement, someone who will push me just enough to help me really move forward. The training plan is sustainable and is now part of my calendar, rather than an afterthought.

Emotionally – I feel supported and motivated and as my physical fitness improves, my mental fitness does too. I am also much more self-motivated, ensuring I do the exercises in between our sessions.

Matt is professional, enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgeable and motivating. What really sets Matt apart from other personal trainers, though, is he adequately challenges you, makes working out enjoyable, and overall motivates you to exercise. What are you waiting for?

Matt at New Summit is an amazing PT instructor. I'm not a small guy and in the year I have been going to him I have lost some weight (30kg), maintained the lose, and maintained a good active life style. His guidance and training regime has been flexible to my needs and as a result I have completed several half marathons as well as a touch mudder and a spartan. Goals I would have struggled to meet without him. His friendly but tough approach to training pushes your limits and is what makes me want to come back each week for more. He is a top quality PT instructor and a top quality guy

I started going to Matt about a year ago and I was initially concerned that I wouldn’t fit into the “personal trainer” gang. I have to say, from the very outset, Matt made me feel welcomed, not self conscious and he absolutely understood what I was trying to achieve. He tailors his sessions and whole training program to the individual and doesn’t just do what he wants to do. The sessions are always interesting, he is a great teacher and he is very flexible in when he can see you, early morning, evenings etc. I feel better in body and mind since starting with Matt, I sleep better and I don’t get ill so much and I am so much fitter than I was. He is a great guy and really invested in making sure that he has a positive impact on his clients life. That’s not to say that each session isn’t really hard work!! Can’t recommend Matt enough.

Matt at New Summit helped me get to my dream of completing an Ironman. He helped with some strength and core strengthening to compliment my triathlon training. I noticed bug gains and he really breaks things down to simple language. Great motivator and really knows his stuff of nutrition. Would definitely recommend.

He pushes you further than you think you can go, and the results are amazing.
