Switched over to Parkers Accounting after several disastrous years at another local firm. Theresa has been pivotal to my company’s growth with her support and expertise through some very difficult & challenging economic times. Nothing is too much trouble and she always responds quickly to any questions I have. Finally I have transparency and a pro active approach towards our taxable liabilities and future financial planning! Have and will continue to recommend Theresa.

I unfortunately cannot recommend Parker's accountants. Theresa is a very rude, condescending and unprofessional person. When I signed up with her at the end of March she said she would be in touch, and would sign me up with Quickbooks. I sent her an acceptance code from HMRC in April and never heard anything back. She said she would let me know when they accepted her. 2 months later I emailed her at the start of June, yet because I mentioned I was busy with work. It was my fault, I’m hiring her yet apparently I need to chase her up even though she stated originally she would contact me.

All I tried to do was ask for proof of work done. Still to this date she has not informed me of what has been done on my behalf, or even sent a copy of my contract which I have requested multiple times. It was her word overmine and even though she argued she didn’t have to send an AML/Risk Assessment she could have proven this, along with my contract yet after 2 months hasn’t - update: I only just got it yesterday (30/07/24) after repeatedly asking for it. Apparently she sent an engagement letter which I never received yet stated in her own words “this is very convenient”. Reading back through her emails she constantly contradicts herself. I merely sought her advice regarding helping me with my tax. I feel she took advantage of my honesty in declaring my lack of knowledge, as I had never hired an accountant before.

She would not give me a breakdown of what I was paying for. I received help from Citizens Advice and advice from another accountant (at the beginning of this discrepancy she actually told me to seek further advice), then after I did that’s when she started being rude, sarcastic and condescending. Blaming me for “trying it on” and if I wasn’t that this accountant should be reported for providing misinformation. I asked for a refund which she refused to give. She wanted me to send the personal contact details of the accountant and CAB advisor and then she would release a refund. Wanting me to break GDPR, holding my refund at ransom.

She herself provided me with incorrect information. HMRC told me if I submitted my taxes early the projection amount would lower - she said it wouldn’t. If I had taken her advice and just paid the projection without submitting I would have been financially in trouble. I took other advice and submitted my figures which did thankfully lower my projection. Why did she not advise me to do this?

Even though I explained to her most of this year's taxes were pretty much done. She still wanted a flat fee of £600 to submit them which is outrageous compared to other accountants I’ve spoken to.

She renounced herself as my accountant, when I started seeking other advice and said there were no discrepancies and that she didn’t want to deal with me any more stating I was “not being held to any notice period” or that she was not holding me to some minimum onboarding fee of £250. CAB advised that I should complain to her regulatory body and issue a chargeback. She threatened that if I did that she would invoice me and if I did not pay, she would take me to court.

I tried everything I could to get a breakdown of fees and work done from her. Nothing. I have no option but to make a complaint regarding bad advice, no explanation of work done, what I was being charged for and for her rude and condescending behaviour.

If you are a freelancer I would definitely stay away.

Theresa is a very hardworking dedicated accountant. She takes time to get to know her clients and provides help and support when needed.
