I would give zero stars if I could. Similarly to other reviewers, the travel insurance seems fine until you actually need it. I've spent 9 hours waiting for an insurance guarantee that I was told would take 30 minutes. They don't provide any contact information for local agents, meaning it is only possible to speak with the claims operator through expensive international calls (not even a possibility on a lot of SIMs). They outsource claims handling to Healix International who have also failed to provide any useful service and have completely stopped replying to any of my emails. Being insured by Sports Cover Direct is a risk to your health.

I made a claim and received a response (after much running around in the middle) fully 9 months after I contacted them. Complete waste of time and money - go elsewhere for insurance!!

THIS COMPANY FACILITATES FRAUD

This company provides insurance agreements that are fraudulent. The claims handling company has no intention of handling the claim within a suitable timeframe, it's obvious now that they have no interest in paying out. It's been nearly 2 months for a claim of around £400 despite me providing them with all the evidence they need.

I tried SportsCover Direct having hit a few dead ends with other provider quotes that were also much more expensive. I got exactly what I wanted: cover for a few days, to complement my regular travel policy. Great customer service, very clear verbiage in terms of the quotes and policy documents.

My review is based upon being able to buy top up insurance for climbing Kilimanjaro. My annual provider, only covers up to 3,000 metres and needed cover for 6,000 metres including search & rescue.

Let's hope that I don't need to use this insurance during my challenge in late June, just providing me with peace of mind.

You never know how good a company is until you have to claim. My son has used Sports Cover Direct for several years, as a top-up insurance for skiing. This year he finally had to claim. Not only have they not settled the hospital fees seven months later, having given authorisation at the time prior to his treatment, but we cannot even get a reply. Fees and interest are now added, and my son is being pursued by a debt agency.
