I can't remember enjoying a hotel stay in the UK this much. Beautiful historical building (1559). Delightful helpful staff. Relaxing lounge and very nicely renovated bedrooms. Can't wait to come again. Breakfast very good also. Such a treat. Bravo!

Some staff were enthusiastic and helpful; others less so. Appreciating that it’s an old ( and probably listed ) building, it still gives the impression of being very tired. The carpets in some of the public areas were frankly dirty. Breakfast was ok if you wanted a cooked English breakfast but they ran out of pastries and juice quickly. |Our room was cramped and the windows didn’t shut completely so on a busy night in the market square it would be noisy. The bathroom was a fair size and modern.

Lovely hotel - a bit tired tbh, and ideally the owners (Wadworth brewery) would spend a bit of money sprucing it up, however the service was just right, and the people friendly without exception. Special mention to Harriet who was really welcoming and to Natalie who was a real a star in the dining room. Food was great, and so was the Wadworth 6X. Room was perfectly appointed - all very clean with a good shower and comfy beds. And all right on the middle of town. Thank you

I only stay about once a year, but I love The Bear. Wonderful old building right on the market square with parking on the premises. Friendly staff, traditional cooked breakfast. Great beer always fresh from the brewery which you can see down the road. There's great walking nearby, from a gentle stroll along the canal to a 6 mile circle from Avebury taking in Silbury Hill.

Stayed for thee nights in a four poster room overlooking the marketplace ||The room was comfortable and the bed linens very clean and fresh. The bathroom has obviously had a refit in recent times and the hot water was plentiful and the shower over the bath had good pressure for an older hotel ||Breakfast was great and on the two nights we dined at the hotel the meals were of a good standard||The staff were fantastic - Beth and the deputy manager take a bow ||The only negative is that the room we stayed in needs a major refresh from carpet through fixtures through curtains - it had not been decorated in at least 20 years with the same decor as my last stay in 2005! The lamp-shade next to the bed was in a sorry state - that's not rustic, that's just general disregard and laziness||For me, that is a dealbreaker - Wadsworth pull your finger out!!

We dined at the Bear Hotel on Friday 25th April 2025. The welcome was excellent with attentive service. The staff took special care of my wives allergy. The food was delivered within reasonable time and was excellent in taste and presentation. Drinks were refilled quickly. I would recommend anyone to eat in the dining room.

The Bear is a quaint traditional hotel in a lovely old building. I don't have anything negative to say about it. The staff were all super friendly. The room was large, quiet and very comfortable. The food was delicious in the evening and the breakfast had a good choice and was served promptly. 100% would recommend.
